The Windmill Inn, Brascote
Our fabulous friends Steve and Sophie over at The Windmill Inn pride themselves on offering a relaxed, informal dining experience with a contemporary global menu in a traditional cosy pub setting! The Windmill is only a short drive away (or for the more adventurous you can choose to follow our walk here) and is the perfect stop-off on the way back to your cabin.
My personal favourite is the Singapore rice with the sticky chilli beef its a treat for the taste buds and will leave you feeling completely satisfied. An insider tip – Pie night is Wednesday evenings, the perfect winter warmer comfort food it’s great value and super tasty. The Button Mushroom, spinach and stilton is one to make a bee-line for in my opinion and the accompanying gravy…is AMAZING!
You can be assured of a warm welcome and delicious food and it’s pet-friendly if you are travelling with your fluffy friend. The log burner is a focal point in the bar area. Often live music can be playing (check their website) relax and enjoy the company.
Booking in advance is always advised, especially at weekends.

The Lancaster Arms – Desford
Located on the outskirts of the village of Desford the Lancaster Arms is another of our favourites. A friendly welcome awaits you in their cosy country pub-style lounge, centred around a real fireplace which is super cosy in the winter. They have a great menu including special sharing boards, as everything is cooked fresh to order dietary requirements can easily be catered for.
If you are looking for a quirky dining experience, The Lancaster Arms also has Dining Domes. The Bulls Head – Leicester Forest West
The Bulls Head or Halfway house as it’s known locally is conveniently located on the A47. The perfect stop for lunch on your first day en route to check in, or for an evening meal after a day spent exploring the city. My teenagers love the “Classic Hamburger” The Bulls Head is an absolute family pleaser of a place, with classic pub grub done well. They have a dog-friendly bar area, or a more formal dining room, depending on your preference. Service with a smile, and a warm welcome.

The Blue Bell Inn – Desford
The Blue Bell Inn is a great family and dog-friendly cosy pub in our neighbouring Village of Desford. There is a simple walk, that takes about 1 hour, that you can follow on this blog post here. By day, in the week and on Saturday Mornings, it’s Lilly’s Cafe; serving breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and coffee. By night the pub serves a fab traditional menu with a great drink selection. Their current menu can be found here.
Tuesdays is quiz night and they very often show sports events on the big screen. There are several rooms, some with cosy corners and a small sheltered garden for those warmer days. Booking a table is suggested and can be done over the Phone or online.

Hercules Revived – Sutton Cheney
The Hercules Revived is one of those cosy pubs that cater for everyone. It’s a traditional coaching inn with a warm and cosy vibe, perfect for those winter days when you just want to be wrapped in comfort and enjoy delicious food.
Fancy A la carte dining? They have very tasteful dining rooms, providing the perfect backdrop for that special occasion. The wine-tasting menu is a treat for anyone looking to excite their taste buds and sample the seasonal best of the best.
Just been for a walk around the Bosworth battlefield with the dog? Absolutely no problem, because it has a pet-friendly bar, you can enjoy a locally brewed pint and a burger by the open fires to relax.
Ollie and his team have created such a gem in Sutton Cheney. The food here is brilliant, seasonal, super tasty and very high quality. They also have a superb selection of ales and the wine list is a great tantalising read.
I would recommend a visit to the “Herc” after a stroll around Market Bosworth or Bosworth Battlefield – they are open every day for lunch and dinner.
