Looking for a beautiful walk near Mallory Meadows? If you can tear yourself away from your bubbling hot tub and cosy cabin or roundhouse, we’ve got the perfect local adventure to share. This 4.5km circular walk takes you through some of Leicestershire’s most scenic countryside, combining history, nature, and a few tasty treats along the way.

Whether you’re staying with us for a romantic getaway or a family escape, this walk is a fantastic way to stretch your legs and soak up the local charm.

🌳 Start Your Walk at Shenton Station

Just a short drive from Mallory Meadows, Shenton Station is one of three starting points for this circular route. You can also begin at Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre or Sutton Wharf—each offers paid parking for just £2.50 per day.

Want to add a little extra magic? Hop aboard the Battlefield Heritage Railway, which runs from Shenton to Market Bosworth and Shackerstone. Steam trains often operate on this line—check the timetable and book tickets here.

🏞️ Bosworth Battlefield: History & Views

Cross the tracks and head toward the Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre, where you’ll find panoramic views of the rolling Leicestershire countryside. Along the way, stop to read the information boards about the Battle of Bosworth (22 August 1485)—a pivotal moment in English history.

If time allows, we highly recommend visiting the exhibition. There’s plenty of space to rest, picnic tables to relax at, and a café open Wednesday to Sunday for refreshments.

🌲 Ambion Wood & Ashby Canal

Continue your walk through Ambion Wood, where tall evergreens offer shade and serenity. Follow the track until you reach the Ashby Canal—a peaceful stretch of water that’s home to ducks, birds, and other wildlife. Just a heads-up: this section can get muddy in wet weather, so bring suitable footwear!

☕ Sutton Wharf: Brunch & Floating Coffee

Next stop: Sutton Wharf, a lovely canal-side spot with two great options for refuelling:

• Sutton Wharf Café – Known for its hearty breakfasts and brunches
• Floatie Oakie – A floating coffee shop offering ice cream, cakes, hot drinks, and even doggie ice cream and duck food

Perfect for a pit stop before continuing your walk!

🚤 Canal Path & Shenton Sidings

Cross the canal bridge and head down the steps to walk along the opposite side of the canal. This tranquil path features benches where you can pause and watch the boats drift by. Eventually, you’ll pass under a bridge—bear left, go up and over, and you’ll arrive at Shenton Sidings.

From here, follow the track back to Shenton Station. If you’re feeling adventurous, take the higher path to King Richard’s Well, then loop back to the battlefield or retrace your steps.
