This 4.5km circular walk takes you through some of Leicestershireās most scenic countryside, combining history, nature, and a few tasty treats along the way.
Whether you’re staying with us for a romantic getaway or a family escape, this walk is a fantastic way to stretch your legs and soak up the local charm.
š³ Start Your Walk at Shenton Station
Just a shortĀ drive from Mallory Meadows, Shenton Station is one of three starting points for this circular route. You can also begin at Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre or Sutton Wharfāeach offers paid parking for just Ā£2.50 per day.
Want to add a little extra magic? Hop aboard the Battlefield Heritage Railway, which runs from Shenton to Market Bosworth and Shackerstone. Steam trains often operate on this lineācheck the timetable and book tickets here.
šļø Bosworth Battlefield: History & Views
Cross the tracks and head toward the Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre, where youāll find panoramic views of the rolling Leicestershire countryside. Along the way, stop to read the information boards about the Battle of Bosworth (22 August 1485)āa pivotal moment in English history.
If time allows, we highly recommend visiting the exhibition. Thereās plenty of space to rest, picnic tables to relax at, and a cafĆ© open Wednesday to Sunday for refreshments.
š² Ambion Wood & Ashby Canal
Continue your walk through Ambion Wood, where tall evergreens offer shade and serenity. Follow the track until you reach the Ashby Canalāa peaceful stretch of water thatās home to ducks, birds, and other wildlife. Just a heads-up: this section can get muddy in wet weather, so bring suitable footwear!
ā Sutton Wharf: Brunch & Floating Coffee
Next stop: Sutton Wharf, a lovely canal-side spot with two great options for refuelling:

š¤ Canal Path & Shenton Sidings
Cross the canal bridge and head down the steps to walk along the opposite side of the canal. This tranquil path features benches where you can pause and watch the boats drift by. Eventually, youāll pass under a bridgeābear left, go up and over, and youāll arrive at Shenton Sidings.
From here, follow the track back to Shenton Station. If youāre feeling adventurous, take the higher path to King Richardās Well, then loop back to the battlefield or retrace your steps.
