Autumn Adventures in Leicestershire: Diwali Lights, Bonfire Night, and More

As the air turns crisp and the leaves turn golden, Leicestershire comes alive with autumn charm. From vibrant festivals to traditional events, here are some must-do activities to make the most of this autumn season in Leicestershire.

1. Explore the Diwali Lights in Leicester

Leicester is world-famous for its vibrant Diwali celebrations, and it’s one of the best times to visit the city. The Diwali Lights are a dazzling spectacle of over 6,000 lights illuminating the Golden Mile. On Diwali Day, Thursday 31st October, the city will celebrate this festival with lively street performances, delicious food stalls, and fireworks. There is also a fantastic selection of events taking place around the city during the fortnight before. You can find out more about Diwali celebrations in Leicester here.

2. Bonfire Night Celebrations

Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes Night) is another highlight of autumn. Many towns and villages host spectacular fireworks displays and roaring bonfires. One of the best locally is just next door at Mallory Park; it’s very popular with a funfair, food stalls and music, tickets should be booked in advance here.  Another popular spot is Abbey Park in Leicester, Book your tickets here and enjoy a family-friendly night of fireworks, funfair rides, and hot food.

3. Wander Through Bradgate Park

Bradgate Park becomes a stunning autumn destination as the leaves change colour. This medieval park is perfect for a stroll, where you can spot red and fallow deer among the ancient oaks. Grab your boots and jumpers, pack a picnic and a flask of something warm and enjoy the autumn landscapes, climb up to the historic Old John for panoramic views of Leicestershire bathed in autumn light.

4. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

For a fun family day out, head to one of the local pumpkin patches. Firstly, there’s a brilliant one right here in Kirkby Mallory, Kirkby Pumpkin Patch and Maize Maze, no booking is required. Alternatively, you can venture to Halloween Farm, located just a 20-minute drive away at Cattows Farm in Heather. Since it’s very popular, booking your tickets in advance is essential. In addition to the pumpkin picking, both offer a great day filled with thrilling attractions and spooky fun for the whole family. So, get into the Halloween spirit, carve your perfect pumpkin, and soak in the beautiful countryside views while you’re there!

5. Explore Leicestershire’s Historic Towns and Villages

Autumn is truly the ideal season to explore the charming villages and market towns scattered across Leicestershire. For example, our closest market town, Market Bosworth, is steeped in history and offers picturesque walks, cosy pubs with roaring fires, and the perfect atmosphere for an autumn afternoon. Additionally, be sure to stop by one of the lovely tea rooms; we highly recommend the Insta-worthy Maison Rose or Jaspers for a hot drink and a seasonal treat.
